Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou will hope to see his side advance when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
Spurs endured a 2-1 loss against Ipswich Town in their concluding game before the international break, meaning they have won just five of their opening 11 matches of the league campaign.
Postecoglou therefore finds himself under strain to turn his side’s fortunes around, but the Lilywhites face a journey to reigning champions Manchester City when the domestic football resumes later this month.
In the meantime, it appears that Tottenham could soon activate a contract extension for one of their most essential players.
According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Spurs are likely to activate an extension to captain Son Heung-Min’s contract.
The South Korean’s current deal is due to lapse at the end of the current season, but Plettenberg asserts that the London side are likely to activate an extension until 2026.
Son, 32, joined Spurs from German side Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, and he has since appeared more than 400 times for the club across all competitions.
He has netted 165 goals in that time, as well as recording 87 assists.
The forward remains a vital part of the Tottenham squad, having scored three goals and contributed the same number of assists in eight Premier League appearances so far this term.
It is stated that Spurs are near to activating the 12-month extension, with the player himself also eager to remain in London.
It remains to be seen whether or not Tottenham will try to negotiate a fresh long-term deal with South Korea international Son once the extension has been activated.
