Spicy Paraguay enjoys the Vinotito harvest

Paraguay beat Venezuela 2-1 to maintain their hopes for a first World Cup match since 2010.

Paraguay only needed six minutes to take the lead, and they did. Just minutes after a brilliant cross had to be touched, Hector David Martinez fired an absolute rocket with the first shot at Wilker Farines, who didn’t even move. Shortly thereafter, Venezuela faced additional problems as Jefferson Savarino had to leave within 20 minutes due to injury.

After a controlled opening for 45 minutes, Paraguay scored early in the second half when Alejandro Romero Gamara was behind the Venezuelan defense line and within a minute of the restart, he crossed Angel Romero’s cross into the bottom corner, although he didn’t get the cleanest. Left. La Vinotinto struggled, but Jan Hurtado’s header was deflected by his team-mates as the striker finally had a clear chance to score his first goal in Venezuela.

Surprisingly, Venezuela had more possession in the closing stages and after a tough game they finally scored in the 90th minute. Jhon Chancellor is the man who gave life to his nation by throwing Jefferson Soteldo’s free kick into the Paraguay goal. However, it turned out to be too late to steal a point.

Paraguay’s second World Cup qualifying win gave Paraguay a chance to at least get a place in the playoffs between the confederations. Venezuela, meanwhile, remains bottom of the table and is on the verge of failing again in qualifying.
