O’Brien’s Late Header Extends Everton’s Unbeaten Streak in Stalemate with West Ham
Jake O’Brien snatched a dramatic late equaliser as Everton stretched their unbeaten Premier League run to nine matches with a 1-1 draw against West Ham United in the so-called ‘David Moyes Derby’ at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Czech international Tomas Soucek had given the visitors the lead in the 67th minute, curling a precise effort into the bottom-right corner after being teed up by Jarrod Bowen.
Everton thought they had a golden opportunity to go ahead earlier in the match when they were awarded a first-half penalty. However, VAR intervened to overturn the decision, showing that Beto had kicked the turf rather than being fouled.
With time running out, the Toffees finally found their breakthrough as O’Brien reacted quickest in the 90th minute, nodding home from close range to salvage a point for Sean Dyche’s side.
Saturday marked the first meeting between the two clubs since Moyes made a sensational return to Everton in January, having departed West Ham at the end of last season.
The draw leaves both teams locked on 34 points, sitting comfortably in mid-table—safe from relegation yet with little chance of challenging for European places. As the season winds down, pride and bragging rights remain the main motivation for both sides.
