Kylian Mbappé made a sensational start to his Real Madrid career, scoring on his debut to help the team secure a 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup final in Warsaw. This triumph marks Madrid’s historic sixth Super Cup win in just nine attempts.

All eyes were on the reigning European champions as they fielded a formidable attacking trio of Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Vinícius Jr. Early in the match, Madrid looked particularly dangerous, especially down the right side with Federico Valverde and Dani Carvajal causing problems for the Atalanta defense. Despite this pressure, the Italian side, competing in their first Super Cup, held their ground and created their own opportunities to challenge Madrid’s defense.

As the game progressed, Atalanta gained confidence and started to control the play. They nearly took the lead midway through the first half when a cross from Marten de Roon was deflected onto the bar by Éder Militão, giving Madrid a scare. Atalanta continued to press, with Éderson coming close to breaking the deadlock before halftime. However, Rodrygo almost stole the show for Madrid just before the break, his effort rattling the crossbar to leave the match scoreless at the interval.

Atalanta resumed the second half with continued determination, only to be denied by a stunning save from Thibaut Courtois, who tipped Mario Pašalić’s header over the bar. That moment proved crucial, as Madrid soon struck with a classic counterattack. Vinícius Jr displayed his brilliant dribbling skills in the box, setting up Valverde for a simple tap-in to give Madrid the lead. The pressure didn’t let up, and Madrid almost doubled their advantage immediately, but Bellingham’s deflected shot was miraculously saved by Juan Musso.

Relentless in their pursuit of a second goal, Madrid finally found it when Mbappé expertly drilled the ball into the top corner after receiving a pass from Bellingham. With Luka Modrić brought on for the final 15 minutes, the veteran Croatian ensured that Madrid maintained control to see out the win. It was an ideal start to the season for Carlo Ancelotti, who made history by lifting the Super Cup for a record fifth time as a coach.
