Investment Signals Club’s Commitment to Women’s Football
Manchester City have announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art training facility for their Women’s Super League (WSL) side at the City Football Academy. The new development, valued at up to £10 million ($12.92 million), is expected to be completed ahead of the next season.
Once finished, the facility will boast cutting-edge features, including a hydrotherapy area, a high-performance gym, and a bespoke circular dressing room designed to foster player development.
“This facility has been specifically tailored to meet the needs of the team,” the club stated. “A range of first-team multidisciplinary experts, including members of the squad, have been actively involved in the planning process to ensure it provides optimal support for the players.”
A Step Forward for City’s Women’s Team
City’s women’s squad has previously shared training facilities with the men’s and academy teams. Club captain Alex Greenwood welcomed the move, emphasizing its significance in the team’s growth.
“We’ve had access to an incredible facility that has helped us get to this stage, but now is the time to take the next step and establish our own dedicated space,” Greenwood said. “From the outset, we’ve been part of the discussions, ensuring the new facility includes everything essential to our performance.”
City’s Legacy and Managerial Shake-Up
Since their WSL triumph in 2016, Manchester City have consistently been title contenders, finishing as runners-up on seven occasions. They have also clinched four Women’s FA Cup titles and four Women’s League Cups, cementing their status as one of England’s top sides.
However, the club has undergone recent managerial changes, with head coach Gareth Taylor being relieved of his duties on Monday. Former City women’s boss Nick Cushing has been appointed interim head coach as the team sits fourth in the WSL standings.
City’s next challenge comes this Saturday when they face Chelsea in the League Cup final, a crucial fixture as they aim to cap off a turbulent week with silverware.
