Liverpool’s Salah says he is making teammates around him better

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah believes that he is not only having the most remarkable season of his career but also bringing out the finest in those around him, the Premier League’s top scorer said on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old has netted 25 league goals and provided 16 assists in a phenomenal season to help propel Liverpool to the summit of the Premier League table with an 11-point edge over second-placed Arsenal.

“I think it is my greatest season, I think this is my greatest season because I make the teammates around me better as well, that is what I sense,” Salah told TNT Sports.

“I sense like I’m in a good condition, very good condition, and trying to not just enhance but to also make the teammates around me progress as well,” he added.

“That’s part of evolving as well. You want everybody to perform well because you’re not going to clinch the league alone, so you want other teammates to also excel.”

Salah said his own form was aiding others to perform at their peak.

“If you check all the statistics around all the teammates, it is going to be superior to the other campaigns. Plus my assists are greater, so that means I genuinely assist them a lot.

“Cody (Gakpo), Lucho (Luis Diaz), other teammates, their season is the greatest (in their careers) – so, I think this is my greatest season because I make the teammates around me also stronger.”

Salah is among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or, but said that securing the biggest honors on offer with Liverpool might not be enough to claim him the award.

“Let’s secure the Premier League and the Champions League, and we will see,” he said.

“The Ballon d’Or, everybody knows sometimes there is (other) elements involved there.”
