Libya Bows to Pressure as Super Eagles Head Back to Nigeria

The Super Eagles and officials of Nigeria’s national football team are currently on their way back to Nigeria after being stranded in Libya. The situation arose when the Libyan authorities initially refused to refuel the team’s chartered jet and clear their airspace.

The Nigerian players were left at Al Abraq International Airport for more than 15 hours without food, water, or internet access.

However, according to sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, also known as OgaNlaMedia, the team is now heading home.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “After pressure from several quarters, the Libyan government has finally agreed to grant clearance for ValueJet Airline to fly and provide aviation fuel to the airline.

“They initially tried to create a diversion by suggesting the plane land in Benghazi before flying to Nigeria. Benghazi was already busy yesterday.

“The NFF has stood firm, insisting that the clearance from Al-Abraq airport must allow the team to fly directly back to Nigeria.
