Everton’s new stadium hosts 10,000 supporters for trial event

Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock hosted 10,000 supporters for a trial event featuring an under-18 exhibition match against Wigan Athletic as the Premier League team prepare to leave Goodison Park at the end of this season.

Construction of the new 52,888-seat venue lasted four years and cost nearly 800 million pounds ($1.01 billion), according to British media sources, and is also scheduled to stage games at Euro 2028.

“Whoever’s designed it has done an excellent job because the stands feel close to you,” Everton under-18 manager Keith Southern told Everton TV.

“When this is packed next season, it’s going to be a special place to play.”

Wigan’s Harrison Rimmer became the first to net at the Everton Stadium in the 12th minute. Everton fell 2-1 with Ray Robert scoring for the home side.

Goodison Park, Everton’s ground since 1892, staged its last derby on Wednesday as David Moyes’s squad held leaders Liverpool to a 2-2 stalemate. The venue’s final official fixture will take place on May 18 when Everton face Southampton.

The stadium will then be demolished with the land set to be redeveloped into a mixed-use project featuring homes and offices.
