Claudio Echeverri Joins Manchester City and Is Available for Selection

Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri has officially joined Manchester City and will be eligible for selection for the remainder of the season, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.

Echeverri was signed from River Plate in January last year but continued his loan spell at the Argentine club until last month. The young talent arrives at City after captaining Argentina in the Under-20 South American Championship.

The 19-year-old played a crucial role in the tournament, scoring six goals in nine matches and helping Argentina reach the final, where they were ultimately defeated by Paraguay. Echeverri, who has signed a contract running until June 2028, made 48 appearances for River Plate, netting four goals during his time there.

“I can’t express how thrilled I am to be here in Manchester and finally call myself a Manchester City player,” Echeverri said in a statement released by the club.

Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, Manchester City will turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend as they prepare to face Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round on Saturday.
